The musical layperson is, paradoxically, both constantly stimulated and utterly deaf. However, the true profundity is that the latter is the product of the former. The product of constant noise is no noise at all. Constant stimulation leads to complete impotence to understand, and thereby a complete impotence to say––anything. Effectively, one is muted. Only in taking a resisting the urge to constantly consume, to gorge oneself on content, can one truly appreciate their affinities.
